This elegant bag was made for Fortnum & Mason in the 1950s. Crafted from black silk grosgrain, it has a slim profile and an envelope design, complete with a bow. The short handle is made from coordinating grosgrain silk. The gold-toned hardware is polished and it has a neat clasp opening at the top of the bag.
Detailed with unusual U-shaped studs that are intricately embossed with criss-crossing geometric forms and tiny fleur de lis motifs. It is lined in red satin and features three slip pockets, one with a snap closure, which are detailed with black piped edges. The words 'Made in Spain - Fortnum & Mason - Gift Dept.' are stamped in metallic gold ink inside. This bag is in very good vintage condition with some signs of use to the interior and small age spots to the plating on the frame. The black silk grosgrain is unmarked.
